QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the CEO to present a report on the recent meeting with stakeholders in respect of Butler/McGee Park; will he detail issues raised and confirm proposals for implementation and will he make a statement?
REPLY:
An online meeting was held with stakeholders from Butler McGee park and representatives of the Council on 20th January 2022. Attendees represented St Mark's Celtic, St Mark’s GAA and Fettercairn Estate Management. Several issues were discussed in relation to improving and developing the park including work on footpaths, examining entrances to allow access but prevent scramblers and dealing with litter and dog fouling.
A follow up meeting on site took place on February 24th to further examine the issues discussed at the January meeting. A commitment was given to carry out further work to entrances to the park to prevent scramblers from entering. Provision has been made in the improvement works budget for 2022 to commence the construction of a walking path around the park, and this was discussed at the on site meeting. Provision has also been made for bulb planting in the park in 2022. St Mark's Celtic raised the issue of sports capital funding to carry out drainage works to one of the soccer pitches and a commitment was given to respond to them on this issue which is being dealt with by the capital projects team in the Public Realm Section. They also raised the issue of difficulties they are having with bringing portable goal posts across Cookstown Road and a commitment was also given to examine this matter and to respond to them on it.
