QUESTION 22
QUESTION: Cllr. Guss O'Connell
To ask the Manager to outline the process and procedures involved where a resident, as the result of illness or age related problems, applies to the Council for a grant to adjust their home or add an extension?
REPLY
A person living in either public or private accommodation may apply for either a Disabled Persons Grant or an Essential Repairs Grant depending on their personal and financial circumstances.
Interested persons or their representatives should contact the Council's Housing Maintenance Section in either Tallaght or Clondalkin Office for infornation and assistance. Application forms and explanatory leaflets are available and staff will be pleased to advise as to QUALIFICATION for grants and the various procedures involved in processing applications.
It is essential that persons contact and discuss with their medical advisors their needs and requirements before proceeding with any works thenselves or entering into any commitment with any contractor to carry out works to their home. Likewise the Council must be consulted in advance with regard to any proposed alterations or works that a person may wish to have carried out to ensure that they qualify for an appropriate grant.
The timescale involved in processing a sucessful application from start to finish varies but six months may be taken as an average. Every effort is made by the CouncIL to ensure that all sucessful applications are dealt with as speedily as possible as we are aware of the urgency attaching to the majority of applications received.
