QUESTION NO.  8

QUESTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin

"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the Public Realm works 2021 proposal for a new footpath in Corkagh Park linking the pedestrian entrance from Cherrywood Crescent to the pedestrian entrance to Corkagh Grange and the necessary consultation with local residents and An Gardaí Síochána with regard to the same."

REPLY:

As requested by the elected members following the presentation of HI-6 at the Clondalkin ACM in April 2021, the residents in the houses in Cherrywood Crescent opposite the location of the proposed path were consulted to get their views on the proposal. Details of the proposed path were delivered to each house on November 15th and a ballot was enclosed to enable each household to provide their opinion. Residents were invited to submit their preference for 1 of 3 options.

Option 1: I am in favour of the construction of the path

Option 2: I am not in favour of the construction of the path

Option 3: I have no preference

39 ballots were issued and 24 were returned by the closing date November 29th.

The results of the ballot are as follows:

Option 1: Number in favour of path: 2 (5%)

Option 2: Number not in favour of path: 22 (56%)

Option 3: Number with no preference: 0

No Response: 15 (39%)

AGS have advised that they would be in favour of the path as it would bring additional park users into this part of the park and provide an increased level of passive supervision.

A statutory Part 8 consultation process is currently taking place on Proposed Enhancements and upgrades at Corkagh Park. The provision of the path in question is included in the proposal to enhance secondary routes throughout the park. A final decision on the path will be made pending the outcome of the consultation process.

Submission can be made in writing up to 5pm on the 9th February 2022 either online to http://consult.sdublincoco.ie or by post to:

Senior Executive Officer, Environment Water and Climate Change Department, South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24 YNN5.
