COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE
Monday, December 20, 2021
QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
'To ask the CEO to detail plans to provide additional Teenspaces throughout the Tallaght area; has he held consultations in respect of his proposals and will he make a statement?'
REPLY:
Consultations have been carried out for the following teenspaces in Tallaght:
A Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) was due to be installed next to St Dominics Community Centre in Tallaght however the initial tender was unsuccessful in procuring a suitable unit. We believe we have found a suitably robust unit and subsequent to agreeing detailed design elements will intend issuing an order shortly. This will be installed in Q1 or Q2 2022.
A consultation has been carried out for a Teenspace for Bancroft Park. In total 200 teenagers responded with close to even numbers of males and females.
In common with consultations elsewhere in the County having places to sit and hang out with friends is seen as most important element of the teenspace followed by activities/exercise equipment.
Wifi and seating again ranked highest but teenagers also requested outdoor Gym equipment and other recreational amenities. Public Realm are finalising site details before issuing a tender in January. It is anticipated that the project will be installed in Q2 2022.
A teenspace is being installed next to the playground in Kingswood. This will consist of a wifi point, seating, and calisthenics/outdoor gym equipment. This was due to proceed in 2021 but Public Realm held off on its installation as there were concerns over a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area.
It is expected that these facilities will be in place in summer 2022.
