QUESTION: Councillor L. Whelan

'To ask, if Árd Mór community centre is considered under the review of community centres. We feel that the current centre should be utilised, and opened as soon as possible with designated youth workers and an outreach element for Árd Mór, and the wider community, such as McUilliam - which is without any community centre facilities?'

REPLY:

The Council is committed to reviewing the operation and structure of our community facility network across the County to ensure that they are both sustainable and maximised for local community benefit in conjunction with the full range of community development supports.  The potential for the Árd Mór neighbourhood centre, whose operation has been impacted significantly during Covid, and other similar facilities, will be a part of that review.  In this context, the local youth services by Foróige, Barnardo's, the DDLETB and others including the MacUilliam neighbourhood centre, operated by Barnardo's will all be considered in the context of the wider work of the Council, the Community Gardaí, the HSE, including through Sláintecare, and South Dublin County Partnership, to ensure the most sustainable uses and effective impacts are delivered from the community facility network.
