MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

To ask the Chief Executive for an update on proposals to provide a pedestrian crossing on the Old Lucan Road for users of Stewart's Care services and in particular to outline what the Council will do to facilitate this given that there are no current proposals for a bus service along this route, as indicated by the NTA at a recent briefing, meaning that funding will not be provided through this medium.

REPORT:

Several pedestrian and traffic counts have been carried out in the past which have indicated that the volumes of both pedestrians and traffic are significantly below the levels where a signal controlled crossing would be provided.

However, it is intended that the current methodology for assessing the provision of signal controlled crossings will be reviewed to ensure that it conforms to current best practice. This is likely to require a considerable degree of consulation with stakeholders. Until any new methodology is established, it is intended to install significant traffic calming at this location and to create a raised shared surface which will enhance pedestrian safety at this desire line.
