MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
That the Chief Executive reports on the closing times of all car parks accessing playing pitches in this Area Committee zone at various times of the year; to outline the number of current keyholders for gates currently on the books; and, in light of ongoing complaints that access to parking at training times is not long enough and that parents of children training or playing games who are unable to walk or cycle end up parking out on verges or blocking roadways, to outline whether improvements are planned in the coming months and in particular for the summer period which can be manic at certain locations.
REPORT:
The closing times of car parks are as follows:
Please note that, for operational reasons car parks may close 30 minutes before official closing time. In locations where this happens the closing time is clearly displayed at the car park. The use of the car park at Griffeen Valley Park (Newcastle Road) extends late into the evenings as sports activities are facilitated by floodlights on the Lucan Harrier running track and Weston Hockey astro pitch. The gate at this car park is closed by a key holder.
There are key holders for car parks at Griffeen Valley Park (both Haydens Lane and Newcastle Road) and Mill Lane. The number of key holders is 4 and they are all sports clubs.
To extend the opening hours of the car parks at Haydens Lane and Newcastle Road both gates have been set up to be automated. The Public Realm Section is waiting for ESB networks to connect the power supply to enable them to be commissioned.
