MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor David McManus

That this area committee requests the Chief Executive to consider measures for safer pedestrian access at a junction between Anne Devlin Park leading to Ballyroan Road? Concerns have been raised about the safety of school children, just at the pedestrian crossing at Anne Devlin Park in Rathfarnham. Would further road markings be possible to indicate a pedestrian crossing point? A photo of the junction is attached.

REPORT:

The location is an unsignalised crossing point. Tactile Paving is in place to alert pedestrians to the crossing point. In addition there is a clear change in surface between the road and the footpath.

Additional roadmarkings are not considered appropriate at this location. In an urban envoronment road users should be aware of the likley presence of pedestrians at any location and signing and lining should be confined to locations where pedestrians might not be either visible or  reasonably expected.
