QUESTION NO.17
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the CEO to confirm plans to deal with the Traffic Management challenges on Maplewood Road; will he appreciate local concerns that account should be taken of additional traffic generated from the housing building sites in Fernwood Green and Maplewood Heights and will he report on consideration of a Pedestrian Crossing close to the Shopping Centre at Alderwood/Maplewood and also the requested barrier at the top of Maplewood Park and may we have a general statement?".
REPLY:
Traffic Management Issues
It is accepted that the additional houseing on Maplewood Road will result in new and altered pedestrian and traffic patterns. These can be best examined as they become established and as the estates are completed and occupied. Traffic and pedestrian counts can be undertaken at that time to establish any changes which require new infrastructure.
Traffic Count for Crossing
A traffic count is scheduled to be carried out on Maplewood Road close to the shopping centre in the near future. This will inform any decision on a pedestrian crossing in this area.
Possible Barrier.
The possible placement of a barrier is being investgated. However it should be noted that this type of location is not generally considered suitable for a barrier.
