MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That the Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council agrees to use the existing limestone currently in storage in Corkagh Park for the purposes of heightening the walls of Mount St. Joseph Cemetery to the pre-existing height. In this way the limestone will be in character with the existing 'hybrid' material and also a new 'locking device' is also necessary for the interior gate.''

REPORT:

Raising the height of the original wall at St. Josephs would result in an unnecessary and inappropriate change, it would result in the original built fabric being compromised with regard to its original form and without proper justification a material change and modern intervention is not warranted. The wall in question is not a perimeter wall that sits separate to the site but is part of the structural integrity. Increasing the height will not only compromise the architectural and structural integrity but will not prevent access to the site, thereby any such work cannot be considered appropriate or justified.

The locking device on the interior gate will be examined to see if it can be improved.
