MOTION NO. 19
MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"That this Committee write to the Garda Commissioner to ask him to approve the two CCTV cameras for Ashwood and Alpine along the pedestrian-cycle path as a matter of urgency so they can proceed and aid the deterrent of anti-social behaviour and drug use that is occurring in the area."
REPORT:
The Road Design and Construction section wrote to the Gardai earlier this year on this matter.
In accordance with Section 38 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, Community CCTV schemes must be authorised by the Garda Commissioner.
A CCTV advisory committee meets every quarter to examine applications for CCTV projects, place them in appropriate categories and make recommendations relative to prioritisation in accordance with the objective criteria set out in the policy. SDCC has not received confirmation of when this particular application will be assessed by that committee.
If this motion is passed a further letter will be issued to the Garda Commissioner seeking approval for the CCTV facilities under the Garda Community CCTV schemes.
