To amend the Development Plan at Chapter 9, EDE3 Obj 6,to include 'including provision of remote working hubs'

REPORT:

Amend  EDE3 Objective 6: from

Support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locally based affordable work facilities and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities

To

Support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locallybased affordable work facilities and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities including provision of remote working hubs''

Section 9.2.2 of the Plan states as follows ‘Working from home or from a local hub provides options for employees and employers which are increasingly likely to be taken up. This provides an opportunity not just for a more balanced live-work environment but for the regeneration of spaces within towns and villages. Ground floor work-live units, where the residential component is ancillary to the workspace, will be encouraged within mixed use schemes..’

The content of EDE 4 Objective 12 is also noted

To support the Government’s Making Remote Work National Remote Work Strategy and the provision of appropriate IT infrastructure and facilities (including hubs at neighbourhood level) that enable a better life-work balance enabling people to live near their place of work.

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment to reflect that the existing objective EDE4  Objective 12 and associated text in Section 9.2.2 as currently set out in the CE Draft Plan adequately addresses the intent of the motion.
