MOTION NO.
MOTION: Councillor Peter Kavanagh, Councillor Liam Sinclair, Councillor L. Donaghy, Councillor S.McEneaney
Economic Development and Employment - Pg244 Motion: To amend EDE3 Objective 6 as follows: To support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locally based affordable work facilities such as co-working space and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities.
REPORT:
The proposed motion seeks to amend EDE3 Objective 6 from: “To support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locally based affordable work facilities and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities.”
To read: To support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locally based affordable work facilities such as co-working space and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities.
The council recognises and supports working from home or from a local hub. It is noted under Section 9.2.2 of the Plan states as follows “Working from home or from a local hub provides options for employees and employers which are increasingly likely to be taken up. This provides an opportunity not just for a more balanced live-work environment but for the regeneration of spaces within towns and villages. Ground floor work-live units, where the residential component is ancillary to the workspace, will be encouraged within mixed use schemes..”
In addition, the EDE 4 Objective 12 is also noted and sates “To support the Government’s Making Remote Work National Remote Work Strategy and the provision of appropriate IT infrastructure and facilities (including hubs at neighbourhood level) that enable a better life-work balance enabling people to live near their place of work.” And EDE3 Objective 6 states “To support the development of new and existing enterprise centres to provide locally based affordable work facilities and to improve employment opportunities and creative networks for local communities.”
Therefore, it is considered the intent of the motion is acceptable and recommended the motion is adopted.
