MOTION: Councillor R. McMahon

Section 9.4.4 EDE8 Objective 4 To add in the text "which may include directional signage to Local Retail Centres"

REPORT:

EDE8 Objective 4 currently states ‘To support the viability and vitality of the existing retail centres in the County, in particular in town, village and district centres and to facilitate a competitive and healthy environment for the retail industry, while reinforcing sustainable development.’

SM2 Objective 12: of the CE Draft Plan states it is an objective of the plan to ‘To support the implementation of the Council’s adopted County-wide signage strategy (2020) that accords with the National Traffic Signs Manual and the Failte Ireland ‘Dublin Visitor Orientation Strategy’ (2020).

The County Development Plan is a strategic document which addresses strategic land use planning issues in the County. SMS 2  objective 12 above provides such strategic policy in relation to signage. The detail of location of signage is not a matter for the County Development Plan. However, it is considered that the intent of the motion is provided for in SMS Objective 12

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment to reflect that the existing objective SMS  Objective 12 and associated text in Section 9.2.2 as currently set out in the CE Draft Plan adequately addresses the intent of the motion.
