MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell, Councillor P. Gogarty, Councillor L. O'Toole
To support and facilitate the future development of tourism related infrastructure and promote events such as markets, festivals and concerts in the traditional village of Palmerstown.
REPORT:
The County Development is a strategic document, in relation to tourism the role of the County Development Plan is to promote and facilitate the sustainable growth of South Dublin’s tourism offer across the County at a strategic level. The importance of tourism infrastructure, the hospitality industry and the very significant tourist attractions in the county are a source of pride to the local authority and those who live and work in the county.
The CE Draft Plan contains a number of policies supporting the concert and festival events across the County. See EDE22 Objectives 4 and 5 below. The detailed policy around these events is however a matter for the County Tourism Strategy
EDE22 Objective 4: To support concerts or events at suitable locations within the County, such as parks,
stadia, auditoriums, conference centres, subject to the protection of residential amenity and appropriate
licensing arrangements.
EDE22 Objective 5: To support local outdoor markets and festivals in appropriate locations within the County.
Recommendation
It is recommended that this motion is adopted to reflect that the intent of the motion is addressed through the provisions of EDE22 Objectives 4 and 5.
