MOTION: Councillor R. McMahon

Section 9.9 EDE19 New Objective To support tourism-related enterprises along existing and proposed Green Routes subject to sensitive design and development safeguards.

REPORT:

The proposed motion seeks to include a new objective, EDE19 stating “To support tourism-related enterprises along existing and proposed Green Routes subject to sensitive design and development safeguards”.

The provisions of  Policy EDE19 and EDE19 Objective 1 below is noted.

Policy EDE19 “Support the development of a sustainable tourism industry that recognises the recreational and tourism potential of the County, building on the actions in the South Dublin Tourism Strategy, 2015 or any superseding strategy.”

 

DE19 Objective 1: “To support the development of tourism infrastructure, attractions, activities and facilities at appropriate locations subject to sensitive design and demonstrated environmental safeguards.”

Any proposals for tourism related enterprises along such routes will be addressed against the provisions of the zoning and policy and objectives of the County Development Plan. Any such proposals must be subject to the appropriate environmental assessments. It is therefore considered the proposed motion is adequately addressed in the CE Draft Plan and such tourism-related enterprises will be dealt with through the Development Management Process.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment to reflect that the existing Policy EDE 19 and EDE 19 Objective 1 and to the Development Management provisions of the CDP.
