MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell, Councillor P. Gogarty, Councillor L. O'Toole

Insert additional E7 Objective: To support the installation of solar panels on up to 100% of residential roof space

REPORT:

The motion seeks to include a new objective under Policy 7 to read as follows:

To support the installation of solar panels on up to 100% of residential roof space.

E7 Objective 1: seeks 'To encourage and support the development of solar energy infrastructure for on-site energy use at appropriate locations in the County.’

It is noted also that the calculation of the optimum size of solar panels for any particular dwelling is a technical issue depending on a number of issues including the size of a dwelling and its particular energy needs. Any requirement for a percentage roof cover for solar panels would be inappropriate. In addition, this issue is a matter for the South Dublin Climate Change Action Plan 2019-2024.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the motion is not adopted.
