MOTION: Councillor M. Duff, Councillor P. Kearns, Councillor Alan Edge

E2. Add objective: 'To support existing Sustainable Energy Communities and actively encourage and support new SECs.'

REPORT:

The proposed motion seeks the inclusion of an objective to support new and existing Sustainable Energy Communities. A Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is a community in which everyone works together to develop a sustainable energy system to generate their own energy.

The Council has adopted a proactive approach to addressing climate change and supporting renewable energy infrastructure and initiatives through this CE Draft Plan and the previous Development Plan (2016-2022). It is considered that the merit of the motion is acceptable and should be adopted with amendment such that a new objective E2 Objective 2 be included.

New Objective: E2 Objective 2: To support new and existing Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) in line with sustainable development and proper planning.

Recommendation

It is recommended to adopt the motion with amendment to include a new objective:  

E2 Objective 2: To support new and existing Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) in line with sustainable development and proper planning.
