Insert COS 4 SLO: To provide three full-size tennis courts at a suitable location in Griffeen Valley park, in consultation with Tennis Ireland, ideally adjacent to the new swimming pool and leisure centre campus
REPORT:
This motion proposes to include a SLO under Policy COS 4: Sports Facilities and Centres in order to provide for three full-size tennis courts in Griffeen Valley Park.
The existing tennis courts at Griffeen Valley Park were removed as a result of the development of the swimming pool. Their removal was agreed at the Part 8 stage for the swimming pool. There is no suitable available location for their relocation in Griffeen Valley Park; the adjacent soccer and GAA pitches in the park are allocated to local clubs and are not available for re-development. There are 3 tennis courts being constructed as part of the Airlie Park development in Adamstown which is currently under construction. This location was discussed and agreed in consultation with Tennis Ireland. There are also proposals for Tennis Courts within the Clonburris SDZ proposals.
Recommendation
It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
