QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor Baby Pereppadan

To ask the Chief Executive which authority/developer is in charge of Corbally Heath and Corbally Green, Citywest? There is an on-going issue with grass cutting and tree maintenance in both areas that can only be addressed once the details of the authority who is responsible for supervising the area is disclosed.

REPLY:

These open space areas in Corbally are not in council ownership and are not taken in charge by the council. Please note that Local Authorities can only take areas in charge that are offered to it and the person offering is required to have the relevant authority to offer the estate for taking in charge. In this context, please be advised that SDCC will fully cooperate with any owners that initiates taking in charge procedures.

The Taking In Charge process is managed by Roads and will require a formal application from the developer (or the owner of these spaces).

It is Public Realm's understanding that the developer / owner of these lands are currently in discussion with the Building Control Section in the Land Use Planning and Transportation Dept. who manage and co-ordinate the taking in charge process under the Planning and Roads Act.

Public Realm Operations are ready to take these areas onto the regular grass cutting programme as soon as they are in charge.

Currently the maintenance of these areas is normally undertaken by private contractor which the residents had organised in previous years, this should be considered by the residents until such time as the taking in charge process is completed.

Queries in relation to Taking in Charge should be forwarded to the Building Control Section (Roads), Land Use Planning and Transportation.
