MOTION: Councillor Yvonne Collins

Community Infrastructure and Open Space: COS 4 Objective 3:  add in the following words at the end "and to consider providing facilities for skateboarding and BMX tracks”.

REPORT:

This motion proposed to amend COS 4 Objective 3 from:

“To support the preparation of a Sports Plan for the County, where this provides for the sustainable development of sports facilities, in accordance with the National Sports Policy”.

To:

“To support the preparation of a Sports Plan for the County, where this provides for the sustainable development of sports facilities, in accordance with the National Sports Policy and to consider providing facilities for skateboarding and BMX tracks”.

This is a high-level objective to support the preparation of a Sports Plan for the County in accordance with the National Sports Plan and to refer to specific sports facilities such as skateboarding and BMX tracks is not appropriate.

However, the Sports Plan for the County will consider the provision of such facilities as part of its assessment and preparation and the existing objective in the Daft Plan will reflect this.

It is noted that the existing objective COS 4 Objective 7 is also relevant:

 “To support and promote communities and clubs in developing minority sports at appropriate locations within the County”.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment to reflect that the existing policies and objectives in the draft Plan cover the intent of the motion:

COS 4 Objective 3

“To support the preparation of a Sports Plan for the County, where this provides for the sustainable development of sports facilities, in accordance with the National Sports Policy”.

and

COS 4 Objective 7:

 “To support and promote communities and clubs in developing minority sports at appropriate locations within the County”.
