MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor, Councillor David McManus, Councillor Baby Pereppadan

• To amend the Draft County Development to include the provision of, rather than to investigate the provision of a swimming pool in the Knocklyon / Firhouse area 

REPORT:

The motion as proposed is to consider providing a provide a swimming pool for the Knocklyon / Firhouse area.

There are no specific provisions in the CE Draft Plan to provide an additional public swimming pool in this area or other areas of the County.

The Firshouse and Knocklyon areas are located within a reasonable distance of a number of public swimming pool facilities both within South Dublin County and within the adjoining areas of Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown as detailed below.

The Council has to allocate resources having regard to need. It is considered that the area is sufficiently served by swimming pools.

The DCC operated Crumlin Swimming Pool is approximately 6.7km from Knocklyon. The Swan Leisure Centre Rathmines is circa 7.3km from Knocklyon. The DLR operated Meadowbrook Leisure Centre is circa c5.7km from Knocklyon.  Tallaght Leisure Centre is circa 7.3km from Knocklyon. Tallaght Community School publicly accessible Swimming Pool is circa 4.3km from Knocklyon and less from Firhouse. 

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
