MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

That this Council make a statement of intent that South Dublin County Council is an LGBT safe and friedly county and that this is written into the Development plan

REPORT:

The motion as proposed is to make a statement of intent that South Dublin County Council is an LGBT safe and friendly county and that this is written into the Development plan.

In this regard, in Chapter 8, Section 8.3 Social Inclusion and Community Development, Policy COS 1 Social Inclusion and Community Development:

Policy COS 1 Social Inclusion and Community Development:

Promote social inclusion and community development and encourage active participation and social integration of minority and marginalised groups, consistent with RPO 9.1 and RPO 9.2 of the RSES.

It is considered that the existing provisions set out under Chapter 8, Section 8.3 Social Inclusion and Community Development, Policy COS 1 Social Inclusion and Community Development are sufficient to provide for the intent of the motion. These objectives incorporate the sentiment of the motion. A statement of intent is more appropriate to the Council’s Corporate Plan and can be interpreted through the Development Plan via the objectives and policy indicated.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment to reflect that existing provisions set out under Chapter 8, Section 8.3 Social Inclusion and Community Development, Policy COS 1 Social Inclusion and Community Development are sufficient to provide for the intent of the motion considered the motion is adopted with amendment to reflect Policy COS 1 which states
