Chapter 8 - COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE AND OPEN SPACE - Policy 9 - Higher Level Education and Further Education Facilities Insert New Objective To support, promote and facilitate planning toward a South Dublin County University Campus within the Masterplan of the Naas Rd/Ballymount/Parkwest development lifetime.
REPORT:
The motion seeks to include a new objective under Policy 9 which states ‘Support the development and ongoing provision of higher-level education and further education in the County, and develop Tallaght as a hub for education, cross collaboration and employment to provide further opportunities for the County’s workforce.’
The new objective proposes: ‘To support, promote and facilitate planning toward a South Dublin County University Campus within the Masterplan of the Naas Rd/Ballymount/Parkwest development lifetime.’
The intent of the motion and the new objective is noted. The development of the Naas Rd/Ballymount is subject to the preparation of a Framework Plan and a subsequent Local Area Plan or other appropriate mechanism for the zoned Regeneration (REGEN) lands. It is considered that the wording should be amended to reflect the need for consultation with the relevant providers.
‘To investigate with the relevant educational providers, the need for a new university campus within the Naas Road area and to support, promote and facilitate a South Dublin County University Campus within the Naas Rd Framework Plan should such a need be identified.
Recommendation: It is considered that this motion is accepted with amendment to insert a new objective under Policy 9 to read:
To investigate with the relevant educational providers, the need for a new university campus within the Naas Road area and to support, promote and facilitate a South Dublin County University Campus within the Naas Rd Framework Plan or any superseding plan should such a need be identified.
