Ch9 - 9.9 EDE21 Ob 3 That the County Development Plan strategically reflects the pressing need for the development of a swimming pool with leisure facilities for the greater Firhouse, Rathfarnham, Knocklyon areas.
REPORT:
The motion as proposed is to consider providing a community swimming pool for the Firhouse/Rathfarnham/Knocklyon area.
There are no specific provisions in the CE Draft Plan to provide an additional public swimming pool in this area or the rest of the County.
It should also be noted that the Firhouse, Rathfarnham and Knocklyon areas are located within a reasonable distance of a number of public swimming pool facilities both within South Dublin County and within the adjoining areas of Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown as detailed below.
The DCC operated Crumlin Swimming Pool is approximately circa 7.4km from Firhouse, circa 4.7km from Rathfarnham and 6.7km from Knocklyon. Swan Leisure Centre Rathmines is circa 8.8km from Firhouse, circa 4.1km from Rathfarnham and circa 7.3km from Knocklyon. The DLR operated Meadowbrook Leisure Centre is circa 6.9km from Firhouse, circa 4.7km from Rathfarnham and circa 5.7km from Knocklyon. Tallaght Leisure Centre is circa 6.8km from Firhouse, circa 7.3km from Knocklyon and 9.1km from Rathfarnham. Tallaght Community School publicly accessible Swimming Pool is circa 4.8km from Firhouse, circa 4.3km from Knocklyon and circa 5.7km from Rathfarnham.
Having regard to the above and to the need to allocate resources where there is greatest need it is considered that the motion is not acceptable.
Recommendation: It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
