MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

That a SLO is put in to include a metro that serves Clondalkin and Clonburris

REPORT:

The Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2016-2035 provides for the electrification of the Kildare route as far as Hazelhatch and the provision of a Dart style service.  This would serve both Clondalkin and Clonburris. 

In this regard, Section 7.6.2 of the Draft Plan states the following:

‘DART Expansion Programme

The implementation of the DART expansion programme will provide DART+ services as far as Hazelhatch on the Kildare Line, serving the developing Adamstown SDZ lands, the Grange Castle Business Park, the established areas of Clondalkin and the Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) lands at Clonburris where a community of 23,000 population is planned.’

It is considered that the proposals for an upgrade of the Kildare line to a DART service serving Clondalkin and Clonburris, as referenced in the Draft Plan, satisfy the intent of the motion.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the motion is adopted with amendments to reflect that the intent of the motion is reflected in an existing section within the Draft Plan.
