MOTION NO.

MOTION: Councillor M. Johansson

In Chapter 6 Housing to remove H1 Objective 5 from the plan: "To encourage the development of elderly persons/assisted living accommodation, where it is proposed that a site or a portion of site is to be developed for elderly/assisted living accommodation a reduced percentage requirement in respect of social housing may be considered."

REPORT:

Motion seeks to remove this Objective from the Draft Plan.

The purpose of this objective recognises the growing need to cater for our elderly population which is forecasted to grow by 56% by 2031 and to promote downsizing / right sizing within the community to make efficient use of the existing housing stock in the County.

Notwithstanding the principle of the objective which seeks to reduce Part V provision where elderly persons/assisted living accommodation is provided, the development of residential units must comply with the requirements of Part V of the Planning and Development Act.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
