MOTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin
To reduce the use of the Fitzmaurice Road to access Greenogue Industrial Estate and thus alleviate traffic congestion in Rathcoole, move the 'Aylmer Road Upgrade' from 'Medium to Long Term Road Objectives', to, 'Six Year Road Programme' to allow access to Greenoge from the R136 (outer ring road).
REPORT:
The motion seeks to
- reduce the use of the Fitzmaurice Road to access Greenogue Industrial Estate and thus alleviate traffic congestion in Rathcoole,
- move the 'Aylmer Road Upgrade' from 'Medium to Long Term Road Objectives', to, 'Six Year Road Programme' to allow access to Greenogue from the R136 (outer ring road).
The changes sought by the motion are considered overly prescriptive. A detailed traffic study of Rathcoole, Saggart and Greenogue would be necessary to decide on the optimal traffic and transport solutions for this area. In this regard, objective SM6 SLO 1 within the Draft Plan states ‘To investigate the need to carry out a traffic and transport study for Rathcoole, Saggart and Newcastle and the surrounding areas following the publication of the GDA Strategy review to 2042 which will clarify the context within which the road network in the area will function’
Recommendation: It is recommended that the motion is not adopted
