MOTION NO.

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell, Councillor P. Gogarty, Councillor L. O'Toole

Insert under SL5 a new SLO: To secure permanent off-street parking at a suitable location in the East End of Lucan village so as to facilitate access while also being able to reduce on-street parking in favour of wider pavements and seating areas for pedestrians.

REPORT:

The motion proposes a new SLO regarding parking in Lucan Village.

South Dublin County Council has engaged Consultants to examine the Canal Loop and parking and traffic management will be included as part of this study.  It is considered that a new SLO with the following wording would be more appropriate:

‘To undertake a traffic management strategy for Lucan Village, to assess traffic management options, including measures to improve the cycling and pedestrian environment and to examine the potential for off-street parking’.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the motion be adopted with amendments to insert a new SLO under Policy SM 6 ‘Traffic and Transport Management’ as follows:

‘To undertake a traffic management strategy for Lucan Village, to assess traffic management options, including measures to improve the cycling and pedestrian environment and to examine the potential for off-street parking’.
