MOTION NO. 251

MOTION: Councillor M. Duff, Councillor P. Kearns, Councillor Alan Edge

Re. L10 Tallaght - Dublin Mountain Link, appendix p131: To mitigate the impacts of dumping and pollution by ensuring greater access to large item waste removal in key areas and the provision of trash traps in waterways to protect river habitats, amenity and water quality.

REPORT:

The proposed motion concerns two separate issues. Greater access to large waste removal in key areas and trash traps to protect rivers.

With regard to the large item waste removal, it should be noted that this service was discontinued in 2008 due to the excessive cost of the scheme and the economic downturn at the time. The costs would increase substantially if the service was to be reinstated now and therefore the Council is not in a position to provide a bulky waste removal or household junk collection. It should be noted that the Ballymount civic amenity is open for people to dispose of such materials and the council encourages the use of licenced waste collectors for the removal of all waste (including bulky waste).

The Development Plan is a strategic County wide document and as such, this is not a matter for the Development Plan. Objectives in relation to waste are contained in Chapter 10 Infrastructure and Environmental Services.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
