MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor Carly Bailey
That this ACM requests an investigation into the drain issue in the laneway of Hillsbrook Grove, Perrystown, Dublin 12. Irish Water have refused to look into this any further and residents advised that the laneway collapsed a number of years ago and feel that this is the cause of the current issues. A number of residents that the drain serves are older people who are not in a financial position to afford the repairs. Others are out of work. Given the history of this particular laneway, we request that a full investigation be done and that the residents be assisted as this has become a public health issue at this stage.
REPORT:
An investigation including camera survey was carried out on the drain between 18 and 19 Hillsbrook Grove on 28th May 2021. There were no defects found in the drain and the drain including Broads trap were operating satisfactorily.
There was a blockage on this drain earlier this year, which was cleared. We're aware that the residents have been in contact with Irish Water since that blockage to enquire about the ownership of this drain, and that Irish Water have stated that it is private and belongs to the house owners that discharge to it.
Members are reminded that they can contact Irish Water directly via their Local Representative Support Desk at localrepsupport@water.ie or 1890 178 178.
