MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor Carly Bailey
That this ACM requests that the streetlighting in Manor Estate, in particular around Mountdown, that have had LED bulb replacements be assessed to ascertain whether the lighting is fit for purpose. Residents complain that since the changeover, the lighting is worse and the area no longer feels safe to walk through after dark. I would ask that the lighting be assessed including looking atthe the length of the poles to assess if they are adequate for the new bulbs and not too tall and for action to be taken to ensure better lighting for this community.
REPORT:
The Public Lighting section has reviewed the recently upgraded lighting in Manor Estate. We have identified certain ESB Distribution poles that have unusually long distances between poles.
These abnormal distances fall outside the design parameters of standard lantern used for street topography such as that in Manor Estate. We have therefore sourced replacement lanterns to address these specific issues. This should address any issues with uniformity and have the effect of increasing the perceived average luminance.
