MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns

That this committee calls on the manager to address the situation on Whitehall road, whereby due to the extension of outdoor facilities outside some commercial premises the footpath is rendered impassable and dangerous for people with a buggy or in a wheelchair.

REPORT:

The outdoor facilities are all located on private property and SDCC traffic section have no power to enforce their removal.  There is a public footpath between the commercial units and the Pines Pub where cars overhang the the public footpath.  The vehicles are overhanging the footpath but are parked on private property and therfore they are not illegally parked.

SDCC are in the process of producing a cycle scheme at ths location.  I will ask if it is feasible to increase the public footpath width at this location under this scheme. I will inform the committee of the outcome of this matter.
