Update on River Basin Management Plan (3rd cycle)

REPLY:

The development of the 3rd Cycle of the River Basin Management Plan 2022 to 2027 (RBMP) is due to progress in June. The RBMP is a key plan in the path to achieving the targets as set out in the Water Framework Directive to achieve good status in all water bodies. The Draft of the RBMP will be published in June, and the public consultation will commence also. This public consultation will last for a period of 6 months.

This is a National Plan, and the Department will be leading the consultation aided by the Local Authorities Water Programme (LAWPRO) and the County Councils.

There will be information events in each area outlining the proposals and actions in the plan. It is expected that the 3rd Cycle will have a particular emphasis on the urban pressures on water quality and will identify actions that need to be taken.

Once we receive the Draft Plan, we will bring the information to the Area Committees and full council as required.
