MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns

That this committee calls on the manager to arrange for the historic archway beside St Michaels house and the historic church opposite the Spawell to be cleared of all brambles and overgrowth and checked for stability, And to ensure that these sites are preserved going forward.

REPORT:

The subject motion relates to the maintenance of lands in proximity to sensitive sites by the Council. Planning is not aware of the work schedule or resources in the relevant Roads and Parks Sections to provide ongoing site/vegetation clearance of the sites which would need to be included as part of the particular sections work programme/schedule.

The church ruins and graveyard would be under remit of the Parks Section and Planning has commenced consultation with Parks on potential maintenance works and any necessary advice from the SDCC Architectural Conservation Officer. The historic archway being referred to is the Gothic Arch opposite Templeogue House, the site being included as part of a cycle/pedestrian route for the Busconnects project.
