MOTION NO. 8

MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

That the Manager engages with Irish Water to ensure a clean water supply for the residents of Scholarstown Park who have had issues with their water since the works commenced at the adjoining Liam Cosgrove site.

REPORT:

A water quality issue arose in Scholarstown Park on 23rd February 2021.  The Council understands that a contractor working nearby on works to lay a sewer for Irish Water as part of Irish Water's Local Network Reinforcement Project (LNRP) may have opened a hydrant which dislodged some sediment in the local network.  This sediment led to some discoloured water getting to houses in Scholarstown Park for a period on 23rd February.

When SDCC Water Section were made aware of complaints they immediately investigated and discovered the cause of the issue and resolved the matter with the contractor, and reported same to Irish Water.  In consultation with Irish Water flushing of the network was arranged on 24th February and sampling was carried out on 26th February.  Initial results of analysis of the water indicate that the flushing was effective in clearing the sediment from the watermains in the local network, and when further results are available from the testing laboratory, SDCC will liaise with Irish Water to determine whether any further action may be necessary.

South Dublin County Council continues to liaise with Irish Water in relation to all water & drainage related matters that are covered under the Service Level Agreement that is in place.
