South Dublin County Council Crest

MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, February 17, 2021

MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"That this Area Committee request that South Dublin County Council put a traffic management plan in place for Newcastle Main Street and that a report is brought back to this Committee as a matter of urgency.  There are several issues of speeding and kerbs that are at the same level of the road and there is huge concerns that someone may be killed on this road due to safety issues."

REPORT:

South Dublin County Council intend to carry out a study on HGV movements through Newcastle Village shortly. To assist the executive in this undertaking South Dublin County Council request that Members submit details of when HGV movements are at their most frequent. This will assist us in directing out studies at the peak HGV traffic flow periods. We will follow this up with origin and destination studies for the HGV's in order for us to understand their route and the alternative routes that they may be avoiding or are not suitable for HGV traffic.

The information taken from these studies will inform the Executive and Scope a subsequent meeting with AGS aimed at developing a solution if required.

Finally, South Dublin County Council will be installing Ramps and Bus Cushions in Newcastle Village once post Covid related restrictions are removed and these may assist in restricting vehicle speed and volume.
