QUESTION NO. 5
QUESTION: Councillor Yvonne Collins
To ask the Chief Executive for an update in relation to the teenspace proposed for Templeogue and what it is envisaged that the teenspace shall include.
REPLY:
Templeogue has a large population of teenagers and young people and it is important that we get the views of this group prior to developing any plans for the area. The Public Realm team have been considering how to roll out the consultation given the obstacles presented by COVID 19. It is intended to start the teenspace consultation this month. This will be done through the local secondary schools, sports clubs and youth organisations.
A budget of 100,000 has been allocated for a facility to be developed on public open space. In line with other teen spaces the area will include elements of a meeting place as well as items to facilitate active recreation. Given the responses to our consultations elsewhere it is likely to be a mixture of active amenity elements such as ball games, fitness equipment and passive amenity such as seating areas.
Locations where teenagers naturally congregate and areas that have very good passive supervision will be chosen. They should be near schools, shops or other amenities used by young people and should be in highly visible locations to offer security to the users. Similar successful consultations have taken place for teenspaces in Collinstown Park and Ballycragh Park.
