Page 32 Natural and Biodiversity Bullet point 7 amend as follows Ensure the Development Plan provides for appropriate protection of trees and hedgerows, where possible, recognising their value and importance to our natural heritage, biodiversity and climate action and encourage maintain and increase tree planting in appropriate locations and introduce new policy for the inclusion of environmentally friendly planting in high density developments. 

REPORT:

The CE Strategic Recommendations under Natural Heritage & Biodiversity bullet no. 7 provides for the following:

‘Ensure that the Development Plan provides for appropriate protection of trees and hedgerows, where possible, recognising their value to our natural heritage, biodiversity and climate action and encourage tree planting in appropriate locations’.

 The motion seeks to amend this CE Strategic Recommendations so that it reads as follows:

Ensure the Development Plan provides for appropriate protection of trees and hedgerows, where possible, recognising their value and importance to our natural heritage, biodiversity and climate action and maintain and increase tree planting in appropriate locations and introduce new policy for the inclusion of environmentally friendly planting in high density developments’ (proposed text underscored; deleted text struck through).

The addition of the proposed wording is generally acceptable subject to amendment to cover biodiversity friendly planting in all developments.

Recommendation:   It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment. Amend CE Strategic Recommendations under Natural Heritage & Biodiversity bullet no. 7 so that it reads as follows:

Ensure that the Development Plan provides for appropriate protection of trees and hedgerows, where possible, recognising their value and importance to our natural heritage, biodiversity and climate action and maintain and increase tree planting in appropriate locations, encouraging biodiversity friendly planting in all developments.
