MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

MOTION NO. 70

MOTION: Councillor Alan Edge

That pursuant to Sustainable Development Goal 11, the Plan will provide for the making of retrospective improvements in terms of placemaking, environment and amenity in disadvantaged areas.

REPORT:

The County Development Plan is required to align with the provisions at a national and regional level which are broadly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals including SDG 11 which relates to the development “sustainable cities and communities” will inform the vision for the new plan in a number of areas including equality and the overall creation of an inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable County for all. 

It is noted that the preparation of the draft Plan includes examination of green infrastructure and social infrastructure and the identification of policy for same. A Parks and Open Space Strategy is also being prepared in parallel to the Development Plan which will go out for separate consultation with the intention that it will inform the draft Plan where appropriate.

Recommendation:

It is recommended that this motion is adopted with amendment. As this type of policy provision or objective is overly specific for this strategic stage, it can be considered as part of the draft plan preparation on foot of the CE Strategic Recommendation (See Part 3) page 25 as follows;

‘Prepare a strategic vision for the Draft Plan which aligns, as appropriate, with the Objectives of  the NPF and RSES having regard to their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’.
