MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor, Councillor V. Casserly, Councillor K. Egan, Councillor David McManus, Councillor Baby Pereppadan, Councillor S. O'Hara, Councillor L. McCrave

That the County Development Plan seeks to maximise the tourism potential of our natural amenities such as weirs, canals, rivers and waterways. 

REPORT:

Within the South Dublin County Development Plan 2016-2022, ET5 Objective 1 sets out to support development of tourism infrastructure, attractions, activities and facilities at appropriate locations subject to sensitive design and environmental safeguards. The South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2022-2028 will seek to maximise the tourism potential of amenities within the County, such as weirs, canals, rivers and waterways. Attention is drawn also to Section 3 of the CE Report, Bullet No.5 under Economic Development and Employment where it is recommended that the Draft Plan will ‘Promote and facilitate the sustainable growth of South Dublin’s tourism offer in both urban and rural areas, including by improving active travel opportunities for people to access these destinations’ 

Recommendation: It is recommended that this motion is adopted.
