QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor Carly Bailey
To ask the Chief Executive how many households are on medical priority, what the average waiting time is for such households, whether appropriate accommodation suitable for their needs is readily available and/or being planned for and what efforts SDCC is making in order to acquire suitable accommodation for such households.
REPLY:
There are currently 475 households (including transfers) with medical priority, comprising 311 hosuing applications and 164 transfer applicatons, with an average current waiting time of approximately 5 years. Some of these households require properties to meet specific and complex needs but many can be accommodated in standard social housing also. We are committed to providing additional specially adapted homes both through our social housing construction programme, acquisition programe and in conjunction with Approved Housing Bodies to meet the needs of these households and all properties coming into stock from new builds and relets are checked as to their suitability for those on the medical list such as ground floor units, wheelchair accessible/liveable, medical adaptations, etc. and with almost 10% of all allocations in 2020 (January to November figures) made to medical priority applicants.
