QUESTION NO. 20

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

To ask the Chief Executive to issue a report into wheelchair accessibility in SDCC area? Are all Footpaths under council control wheelchair accessible? and if there are issues who should be contacted? (To Give and name and contact for SDCC Person responsible) , also does the Chief Executive havw plans to commit to wheelchair friendly and safe footpaths in our county and to make a full statement on this.

REPLY:

All new footpaths constructed in SDCC are wheelchair accessable. However some of the other footpaths have been constructed to older standards and may have higher lips.

In addition footpaths bays may rise due to wear and tear and tree root activity. The Area Engineer and Inspectors take note of these issues during the year and then include in the following year's Roadwork and Footpath programme.

Any issues should be sent to the Senior Engineer , Road Maintenance.

SDCC is committed to providing and maintaining safe and accessible footpaths.
