QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

To ask the Chief Executive to confirm his plans to support activities to encourage the participation of women and people of diverse communities in local government following the announcement of grant aid to facilitate research into LE19 Experiences contribution?

REPLY:

SDCC has been awarded a grant of €10,000 from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the ‘Call for proposals to support females and diversity in Local Government’.

The grant awarded is to carry our research with the female and minority candidates that ran in the local elections in South Dublin County Council in 2019, to:

• Inform a targeted plan aimed at increasing the number of female and diverse candidates in the 2024 local elections
• Develop an action plan informed by the research
• Increase the visibility of female Councillors in SDCC, by carrying out a campaign following the video project
