QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
To ask the Chief Executive to confirm the number of Grave spaces available in our Cemeteries and will he make a statement in respect of plans for spaces in the future?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council own and operate 8 burial grounds. There are grave spaces/plots available in 3 burial grounds. Pre-purchase conditions are in place prioritising availability for senior citizens in Newcastle and local residents in Saggart. Graves cannot be purchased in advance in Bohernabreena Cemetery.
- Bohernabreena
- Saggart
- Newcastle
There are over 1,300 new plots available in these 3 burial grounds and there are a further 4,000 plots that can be developed.
Based on the historic demand, this will provide an adequate number of new plots for over 10 years.
The Council remains committed to providing burial grounds for the County and is developing plans for future additional provision.
The Burial Grounds Strategy will be reviewed by the Environment SPC during the course of 2021.
