QUESTION NO. 8
QUESTION: Councillor Alan Edge
To ask the Chief Executive, on what specific basis the trees recently removed as part of scheduled maintenance on Wainsfort estate were felled, having regard to the survey.
REPLY:
The trees in Wainsfort estate were surveyed to inform the scheduling of tree pruning and removal works. The trees were removed because of their proximity to streetlights. Pruning the tree and light clearance was not an option in this case because of the proximity of the trees to the streetlights.
The Council’s Tree Management Policy – Living with Trees – states the following criteria for tree removal
‘The trunk of the tree is within 2m of a public lighting column and the long term viability of the tree if retained in its location would be compromised by a requirement for ongoing maintenance in order to maintain the effectiveness of the adjoining street light.’
