MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
This committee requests the Chief Executive provide a detailed report on the damage costs to the parks in the electoral area and a breakdown of the areas that were affected. To ask that details of stockpile materials that were collected overtime Halloween period. The members also acknowledge the hard work carried out in the run up the to Halloween holidays and post Halloween. The council park rangers in partnership with policing authority were very accommodating to residents over this period as they played a huge role in minimising damage to our amenities and open spaces.
REPORT:
There were a total of 80 bonfires recorded in the Lucan, Palmerstown, North Clondalkin area during Halloween. Details of the locations and number of bonfires that took place at each location are listed in the table below. The average area damaged by a bonfire was approximately 5metres x 5metres. The largest area damaged by a bonfire measured 10metres x 8metres. The post Halloween clean-up is still ongoing and it is estimated that the cost of clean-up will be in the region of €18,000
There were 33 calls received about stockpiled material in the period 8th – 30th October. All stockpiled material collected prior to Halloween was brought to Oxigen Environmental Ltd in Ballymount for disposal. Normally weighbridge tickets are provided to drivers which provide information on the volumes of material collected. Due to COVID 19 restrictions weighbridge tickets are not currently provided and at the time of writing this report it was not possible to provide an indication of volumes of material collected.
