QUESTION NO. 28
QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
To ask that the Chief Executive gives an update on the Grand Canal Greenway Cycle Route in South Dublin County Council's remit Grand Canal Greenway, 12th Lock to Hazelhatch Bridge. Also, the upkeep of the section concerned in the meantime and cycle paths around Grange Castle and the Newcastle Road to Lucan
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council has advanced through preliminary design and Part 8 planning approval stage for the delivery of the Grand Canal Greenway, 12th Lock to Hazelhatch, with the Part 8 Approved by the Council in May 2019. Unfortunately, in the latest round of funding or Greenways and Cycleways announced by the Department of Tourism, Transport and Sport last week, no allocation was provided for this scheme.
The provision of this 4.6 km stretch of greenway along the Grand Canal from the 12th Lock to Hazelhatch is a project that the Council wish to see advancing and as such the Council will continue to pursue funding and will work with the various agencies and public bodies involved to ensure the delivery of this worthwhile project.
Waterways Ireland own and maintain the canal and towpaths.
