QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

That the Manager reports on the number of trip and fall incidents reoported so far for 2020 in the RTFB area and how these numbers compare with the previous three years.

REPLY:

The Council’s Road Maintenance records provide numbers of calls received with complaints about footpaths, some of which but perhaps not all, include information relating to trips or slips.

The number of Public Liability claims against SDCC in relation to trips/slips is potentially the best indication of the numbers as requested.   However, reports compiled by IPB, who manage this service for South Dublin County Council, do not provide a breakdown by Electoral Areas and the Local Electoral Areas have been altered as a result of various Local Electoral Area Boundary Commission reports, most recently in 2018

The table below provides details of the number of footpath/slip and trip related claims registered against the Council, for locations across the county, over the last 4 years

Since becoming fully insured by IPB the cost to the Council of all public liability claims, including footpath related claims, is included in the cost of the Council’s annual public liability insurance policy.
