MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan
That the Manager reports on the ongoing issues with drainage and sewage in Dodder Valley Park.
REPORT:
The wastewater sewer that runs parallel to the Dodder River, which serves Tallaght and the south of SDCC area, and drains to Ringsend Sewage Treament Plant is part of Irish Water's Network.
Irish Water has been made aware of occassional capacity issues with this pipeline particularly during high rainfall events. They are carrying out a Drainage Area Plan (DAP) at present on this sewer which involves locating flow monitors throughout the network and collecting data over various weather and flow conditions. When this report is complete we expect it will include a plan on how to resolve capacity issues in this sewer. In the meantime SDCC, in consultation with Irish Water, have erected fencing around the manhole on a low point that is most likely to surcharge in very heavy rainfall events. This is for safety reasons, and to assist in any clean ups following any surcharge events. The manhole is located in a forested area as far away from the pathway as could be used. In the event of surcharges, of which there have been 2 this year, SDCC Drainage Operations under the SLA with Irish Water carry out a clean up as soon as can be arranged.
Members are reminded that Irish Water have established a Local Representative Service Desk, which is committed to giving speedy responses. This Service Desk can be contacted at localresupport@water.ie or at 1890 178 178.
